How to Restore a Hijacked Desktop
A desktop hijacked by a virus usually displays icons or images that are hard to erase or change. The wallpaper is often changed as well. However, you can restore the hijacked desktop using the Windows System Restore feature. System Restore takes snapshots of your computer system and creates restore points automatically every week. These points are also created prior to installations or system updates. Once your desktop is hijacked, you can use the system restore and return the computer to a previous state when everything was fine. This action does not affect personal files but removes any products installed after the date of the restore point.
1 – Go to the “Start” menu and click “Control Panel.” Click the “System and Security” link and then the “Action Center” link.
2 – Click “Recovery” on the bottom right of the “Action Center” window. Click the “Open System Restore” button.
3 – Click “Next” in the “System Restore” window. Select the desired restore point from the list and click “Next.” Click “Finish” to confirm system restore.
